School Supports

Induction for new staff members
The School of Chemistry has its own induction handbook which can be found in the staff section of the School of Chemistry’s website . The College also has an induction process -see below.

Mentoring
All new academic staff are offered a mentor from their discipline which is organised by the Head of Discipline and Head of School. Research PI’s (eg. ERC, SIRG, RS/SFI University fellowship) can also avail of this mentorship. Research staff are generally mentored by the PI of the group they are working in.

Flexible working
Academic staff can generally work flexibly as long as they are present for teaching and meetings and to provide suitable supervision for students and researchers. The working arrangements of research staff can generally be negotiated with individual PIs and may allow for informal flexible working arrangements.

TCD in the wake of the working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic is developing a new flexible working policy.

Flexible working
Trinity offers a number of schemes for flexible working, including the shorter working year scheme and teleworking.
It may also be possible for research staff to negotiate flexible working with their individual PIs, allowing for informal flexible working arrangements.   TCD in the wake of the working at home during the pandemic is developing a new flexible working polcy.

Mentoring
HR provide a range of mentoring and course to enhance skills. A number of mentoring schemes are available, including the Early Career Mentoring Initiative for Academics, the Momentum Programme for Academics and the Professional Primary Skills for Researchers Programme.

Leave policies
TCD has a number of policies relating to maternity, paternity, adoption, parental leave, carer’s leave, career breaks and sick leave which can be found on the Human Resources website.

Childcare
TCD has an on-site day nursery, which is open to children of both staff and students. This service is available from 8am to 6pm during term time, and 8am to 5:15pm during summer time.

Breastfeeding
TCD has policies on Breastfeeding to support breastfeeding mothers. Staff who are breastfeeding can take one hour per day to do so, and this arrangement is available for as long as the mother chooses or until the child is two years old.

Bullying and Harassment
TCD has a Dignity and Respect policy. This policy includes information on resolving issues through both informal and formal means.
