Teaching Activities
RDS Live demonstration series (co-proposer: Dr. N. Scully)
'The Chemical Rainbow: Bringing Colour to Life' - This demonstration lecture for 10-12 year olds provides a dazzling display of coloured chemical transformations and raises awareness of the impact of colour and its use for good and for bad.
Teaching Innovation Projects
- FUNdamental Chemistry 2002 Centre for Learning Technology Proposal (co-proposer: Dr. N. Scully) - to develop video and computer-aided learning to the Preliminary Course
- Chemical Visualisation in 3D 2004 Centre for Learning Technology Proposal (co-proposers: Dr. N. Scully, Dr. G. Watson) - to develop a new computer-based practical for JF and SF practical labs and advance student understanding of crystal packing and the representation of molecular orbitals.
Broad Curriculum Projects
- SF Broad Curriculum and departmental SF Chemistry Teaching Fellow
- 2001/4 - to increase SF students societal awareness of the importance
of Chemistry in the form of a team presentation exercise (co-proposers:
Profs J Kelly, J. Corish) (fellow: David McGovern)
- JF Broad Curriculum Chemistry Teaching Fellow - 2002/5 - to
deliver basic chemistry tutorials in small groups for Natural Science
students without Leaving Cert Chemistry (co-proposers: Dr. N.
Scully, Dr. G. Watson; fellow Serena Corr)
Bologna Declaration
Seed-funding to explore the viability of a joint Chem/Biochem taught Master's programme in the Chemical and Biochemical applications of Spectroscopy, Instrumentation and Modelling (co-proposers: Prof. C. Williams, Dr G. Watson, Dr. M. Bridge; course coordinator: Susan Quinn;
