I graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a first class honours degree in Chemistry in 2002, for which I was awarded the W. H. A. Macintosh prize jointly with Ann Marie Fanning. Having completed my fourth year project under the supervision of Dr. Susan Matthews, on the use of resorcinarenes as synthetic ion channels, I decided to take up a Ph.D. position in her group. Dr. Matthews has since taken up a lectureship at the University of East Anglia and my work is now carried out under the day to day supervision of Dr. Gunnlaugsson. My work focuses on the attachment of ligands to constrained resorcinarenes for the complexation of lanthanides and actinides for remediation of nuclear waste. |
