David Scanlon
David joined the Watson Group in October 2006 after completing his degree in Computational Chemistry in Trinity. He had earlier completed his Final year project with the group on the surface sensitivity of Li-doping of MgO. David is currently investigating oxides with catalytic applications, as well as studying the fundamental properties of transparent conducting oxides (TCOs). David won the 2008/2009 BOC gases postgraduate bursary award for his research on oxides with environmental applications. In 2010, he was awarded the RSC Solid State Chemistry Group Graduate Student Bursary to attend the Spring MRS in San Francisco. In addition he received a Trinity Trust Travel award to attend the same conference. David’s image of the charge density of layered oxychalcogenide [Cu2S2][Sr3Sc2O5] was chosen as the cover of Chemistry of Materials for March and April of 2010.
