Aoife graduated with a first class honours degree in Chemistry with Molecular Modelling from TCD in 2011. Her final year project, "The effect of divalent dopants on the oxygen storage capacity of CeO2", for which she was awarded the Cocker Prize in Chemistry, was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Watson. She joined the Watson group as a postgraduate student after receiving an Irish Research Council scholarship and was later presented with the 2014 BOC Gases award for her research on photovoltaic materials, transparent conducting oxides, and continued work on CeO2 catalysis. Aoife completed her PhD in 2015 with a thesis entitled "Energy and environment: solid state simulation of novel photovoltaic and catalytic materials" and is now a postdoctoral researcher in the group, focussing on proton conducting solid oxide fuel cells.
