Ph.D Student: Porphyrin Carbohydrate Conjugates as PDT agents
My research project is based on the synthesis of photodynamic therapy agents (PDT). A series of amphiphilic porphyrins conjugated with biologically relevant carbohydrates were synthesized via the Huisgen Cu(I) catalysed cycloaddition reaction in high yields. The methodology allowed for the synthesis of a range of compounds with variation in the carbohydrate unit and in the presentation pattern. Other projects focus on molecular scaffold design particularly triptycene arrays with future applications as glyco-clusters.
