Research

The goal of my research is to develop alternative methods to handle and process novel two-dimensional nanomaterials in order to maximise their surface area, conductivity and electro-chemical behaviour.

Electric double layer capacitors or supercapacitors are seen as the energy storage devices of the future, complementing more the common battery technologies. These devices can be prepared by simple techniques and using very small amounts of metal oxides.

A range of layered transition metal oxides are studied either in their raw state, as well as after physic-chemical processing.

João completed his PhD in the CPAM group in 2016, and now works as a postdoc to continue his research.

Once, the Physics Nobel prize winner, Richard P. Feynman, said that we are just too big to work at the nanoscale. Nowadays, in our group it is possible to design materials at the atomic level, which will lead for sure to new and improved energy storing devices.
