Dr. Aleksey Shmeliov

Research

I received Bachelor Degree in 2009 from Trinity College Dublin studying Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials. My education was continued in Oxford University, Material Science Department under supervision of Prof. V Nicolosi and Prof. P. D. Nellist. I was awarded Ph. D. in 2014. The title of the research projecrt was “Transmission Electron Imaging and Diffraction Characterisation of 2D Nanomaterials”. It involved structural characterisation of 2D hexagonal boron nitride, molybdenum disulfide and tungsten difulfide using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and electron diffraction.

Currently, I am back in Trinity College Dublin in the group of Prof. Valeria Nicolosi continuing work with 2D nanomaterials, such as black phosphorous and MnPSe3. My other research involves collaboration with groups which require electron microscopy based imaging and structural characterisation of nanomaterials and polymer composites.
